Absences

Attendance at school every day is compulsory.  Regular attendance by each child is deemed necessary for progress to be made.  Every day missed means work missed and students can easily fall behind. We expect an attendance rate of more than 90% where at all possible.  Our goal for 2025 is 94% attendance.

Students should only be absent for illness or significant family reasons.

It is an obligation under the Education Act for parents to ensure their child is at school every day.   If your child needs to be away from school for a pressing reason (eg illness, family emergency), please phone us on 3343 0777 on the morning of the absence to advise us of the reason.  It is vital that we are advised of absences.

Mt Gravatt SS uses “same day notification” text advices.  You will receive a text message if we do not hear from you regarding your child’s absence.  This is to ensure they are safe with you.  If we cannot contact you, we may contact your “Emergency contacts” from enrolment form to make sure your child is safe.

If you are planning on taking extended time away from school (more than ten days), please advise us in writing.​
