Attendance at school every day is compulsory.  Regular attendance is essential for each child's academic progress, as every day absent results in missed work and can cause students to fall behind.

We aim for an attendance rate of above 90% wherever possible, with a 2026 target of 94%.

It is an obligation under the Education Act for parents to ensure their child is at school every day.

Students should only be absent from school due to illness or significant family reasons. Under the Education Act, parents are responsible for ensuring their child attends school each day. If your child is absent for any reason (such as illness or a family emergency), please notify the school on the morning of the absence by texting 0429 906 081 or emailing admin@mtgravattss.eq.edu.au.  Prompt notification is essential so we can accurately record and monitor attendance.

Mount Gravatt State School uses same-day absence notification text messages. If we have not received advice regarding your child’s absence, you will receive an SMS requesting confirmation of their whereabouts to ensure their safety. If we are unable to reach you, we may contact your nominated emergency contacts provided on enrolment forms.

If you are planning for your child to be away from school for an extended period (more than ten days), please contact the school office to obtain and complete an “Exemption to Schooling” application.
