The Prep program at Mount Gravatt State School is of very high quality.  Our teachers are experienced, dedicated and committed to providing a happy, nurturing environment for the first year of school, considering appropriate learning styles for early childhood.

Children are involved in active learning experiences that makes education come alive.  Literacy and Numeracy play the highest role, along with social skills.  By the end of our Prep year, our students are expected to be readers and writers.  We do this via explicitly teaching and guided co-operative learning that encourages the development of both social and academic skills.

In 2019 we introduced a new synthetics phonics program:  SSP, to help students crack the code of reading.  This teaches students phonemic awareness skills vital to building a strong foundation for reading and spelling.

At Mount Gravatt State School we believe in making sure students enjoy learning.  Our Prep students are involved in active learning, including guided play.  Students have opportunity for movement and fun.  We strongly value the importance of early childhood and ensure students are feeling happy and safe as they start their learning journey.

We invite inspections of our Prep facilities and programs.

Prep Open Days (Information Sessions) are held throughout the year.
